AHBA wasn’t enough for Monte, so soon there will be MORE HERDING. He will be entering the two-day test for the HT in a couple weeks! Exciting!
A certain short-legged canine that lives in this house passed not just the first leg, but also the second leg of the HCT yesterday!!
We were only signed up to do the first leg, as I wasn’t sure Monte (or even me) was ready for the second leg test. Well he did incredibly well on the first leg test and the judge asked if we were doing the second leg. Long story short, we did the second leg test and he moved the sheep up and down the pen four times and came to a full stop in under 3 minutes. Pretty incredible.
Monte has some letters now! It’s pretty exciting. We have some work to do this fall and spring to take the next steps!
I don’t have any pictures but some professional ones are on the way. I should have some this week!
Monte will be going for his first leg of the HCT on 9/22! Woohoo!
Dat momo.
Dori is bashful about posterior shots/immediately turns and tries to lick me every time, so this is the best I could do. The cardi momomization was successful. Her groomer was a bit conservative, but better that than the alternative :)
I love Dori’s face: “Oh you did NOT take a picture of my butt!”
I would say the cardi momoization is successful! I think at minimum Monte needs a trim, I’d be really happy if it turned out like Dori’s backside.
Monte is really picking up the herding thing - we actually drove sheep in a line! I do a bad job steering yet though, I feel like the direction I need to push the dog is the opposite of what feels right to me, so we ended up with very swervy sheep. He’s getting less of a “CHASE, CHASE NOW” mindset and he only goes full tilt when the sheep scatter.
This one is an outtake - I’m doing a bad job of blocking him (I didn’t have a staff.)
