Lack of updates is the sign of a busy dog!
Monte has started advanced obedience and we will be testing for the CGC certification at the end! Super excited for that. He is doing better with the jumping on people, and the handling crowds part, so he’s getting there. We took him to the farmers’ market in town this past weekend and he handled it like a champ. There’s hope for him yet.
Haven’t been herding lately, which is unfortunate, but it’s just been hard to find the time. The weather has also been nasty so being outside for any period of time is hard for dog and handler alike.
He’s happy and healthy, and with his new harness he has a newfound enjoyment of walks too! We’re taking a lot more walks now that we have a harness. He behaves on the leash so much better, and since he’s less tempted to pull he has more energy and we can go farther.
I’m at training for work this week and it involves some discussion of statistical methods. For a lot of people this is turbo boring. It’s a huge part of my work, and I love statistics. So much that I named my dog after a statistical method.
No, seriously.
My master’s thesis was on using an uncertainty analysis method to inform climate-related risk in hydraulic structure design… sounds boring. The actual title begins with the phrase “Monte Carlo Simulation…”
Some vets/kennels refer to the dog by name, as if he was a person. You may see a greyhound named Buster Smith or a Westie named Delilah Brown, and on vet bills and charts the dog has their people’s last name.
The first syllables of my last name sound a lot like “Carlo”. People generally miss the Monte Carlo phrase even when they say it out loud, but they groan if they figure it out.
The people I told in class only shook their heads.
